A Computational Study of the Spreading of Oil Underneath a Sheet of Ice
نویسندگان
چکیده
The spreading of oil underneath a sheet of ice is computed using an adaptive level set method for incompressible two-uid ow. Factors such as viscosity, surface tension, and wall adhesion are taken into account in the computations. The results of the computations agree well with previous experiments and theory. In this work, we also present a v ery eecient and accurate computational method for determining the nal steady proole of a body of oil under ice in water. The computational models are used to make further observations regarding the dependency of the oil spreading radius on the surface energies between the oil, ice, and water.

متن کاملAn Investigation of Oil Spreading Coefficient in Carbonated Water+ Gas + Oil System: an Experimental Study in an Iranian Asphaltenic Oil Reservoir
To provide supplementary oil recovery after the primary and secondary processes, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques are introduced. Carbonated water injection (CWI) as an EOR method can improve sweep efficiency and the risk of gas leakage. On the other hand, the interfacial tension (IFT) is one of the key factors which can affect fluid displacement during the process of CWI greatly. Therefo...

In this study 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) interaction with carbon nanocone(NC) and nanocone Sheet (NCS) was evaluated by density functional theory. The calculated thermodynamic parameters including Gibbs free energy changes and Enthalpy alterations showed the interaction of TATB with the both nanostructures are exothermic, spontaneous, experimentally possible ...
متن کاملAntarctic Ice Shelf Tide Modeling Using PALSAR Interferometry
The knowledge of ocean tides underneath permanently or seasonally sea ice covered ocean and ice shelves over Antarctica, is largely unknown. Significant amount of West Antarctic ice sheet melt is through the mechanism of basal melting and due to turbulent tidal mixing. Knowledge of the ice shelf grounding lines and their extent, are critical to accurately quantify ice sheet mass balance, and oc...
